Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
IRIS (Information Returns Intake System) is the IRS’s new electronic filing system for Forms 1099, 1098, 3921, 3922, 5498, and W-2G. It replaces the older FIRE system and offers faster, more secure filing options.
At 1099FIRE, we file directly through our authorized IRIS A2A (Application-to-Application) channel — so you don’t need to buy software, apply for a TCC, or learn XML formatting. We handle everything for you, ensuring your filings stay accurate and compliant with the IRS’s new standards.
Not if you outsource through us. When you use 1099FIRE’s outsourcing service, we file under our own registered IRIS A2A TCC. That means you don’t need to apply for your own TCC or manage the IRS registration process.
If you were previously using the FIRE system, note that FIRE TCCs are not compatible with IRIS. Businesses that wish to transmit directly will need to apply for a separate IRIS-specific TCC.
Yes. IRIS is built for both small and large filers. The IRS portal supports up to about 100 forms per upload, while the IRIS A2A system can handle thousands of records using XML transmission.
IRIS currently supports e-filing for Forms 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, 1099-OID, and related 1099 series forms.
We can also handle corrections, replacements, and prior-year filings for supported forms through the IRIS A2A system. You simply provide your data — we prepare, validate, and transmit on your behalf.
The IRS now requires nearly all 1099 filers submitting 10 or more information returns (aggregate across all types) to e-file through IRIS starting in 2024.
