Wisconsin State Mandate (Forms 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-R, W-2)
The state of Wisconsin participates in the Combined Federal/State Filing (CF/SF) Program. This means that payers who use the CF/SF program are not required to file Forms 1099 separately with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. The IRS forwards this information to the state.
Exception: Any Form 1099 reporting Wisconsin withholding must be filed directly with the Wisconsin DOR by January 31. If the recipient has a Wisconsin address and Wisconsin tax was withheld, you must skip the CF/SF program and upload directly to the Wisconsin DOR using this link.
The file you transmit is the same as the IRS file with one change — you must add the state code. Form W-2s may also be transmitted to the Wisconsin DOR through this system.
Deadline
Form 1099-K must be filed electronically with the IRS on or before March 31. Wisconsin requires that state 1099 filings be submitted within 30 days after the federal due date, which typically makes the state deadline April 30.
If the due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day.
Specifications
The file format for Forms 1099 follows the guidelines issued in IRS Publication 1220. Wisconsin requires that each record with a Wisconsin recipient include the employer or payer’s Wisconsin withholding tax account number (TAN).
Use the Wisconsin TAN if you withheld state tax.
If no Wisconsin tax was withheld and you have never held a Wisconsin TAN, use:
036888888888801
This ensures proper reporting compliance with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
