Do I need multiple TCC numbers?

No. A transmitter control code (TCC) is a 5-character code the IRS assigns so you can file forms electronically. One TCC number allows you to act as a transmitter and file as many 1097, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, and W-2G forms as needed—for as many different payers and recipients as you like.

However, you do need separate TCC numbers for specific types of forms:

  • A different TCC to e-file Form 8027 (Employer’s Annual Information Return of Tip Income and Allocated Tips)

  • Another TCC to e-file Form 1042-S

  • A separate TCC to e-file Form 8955-SSA

  • And yet another TCC to e-file ACA 1095/1094 forms or W-2/W-3 forms
