Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The IRS is retiring the legacy FIRE system and moving information return filing to IRIS, the Information Returns Intake System. FIRE has been used for many years to electronically file forms such as 1097-BTC, 1098, 1099, 3921, 3922, 5498, W-2G, 8027, 8955-SSA, and 1042-S. Going forward, filers need to prepare for IRIS XML formatting, validation, and transmission requirements.
FIRE uses a legacy fixed-width file format. IRIS uses a newer electronic filing system with stricter validation rules and modern transmission methods. For high-volume filing, IRIS A2A transmission requires properly formatted XML files that must pass IRS validation before they are accepted.
Not when you use our filing service. We transmit through the IRS IRIS A2A channel using our approved transmitter credentials. That means you do not have to complete the IRS TCC application, ID.me setup, software testing, XML development, or A2A transmission process on your own.
Yes. Before anything is transmitted to the IRS, we provide PDF recipient copies for review. Once you approve the filing, we submit it through IRIS and provide confirmation after transmission.
Yes. We can assist with original filings, corrections, and prior-year returns. This is especially helpful during the FIRE-to-IRIS transition because older filing years and correction scenarios can be more complicated than standard current-year filings.
IRIS filing requires setup, credentials, formatting, validation, testing, and IRS transmission knowledge. Outsourcing lets your team avoid the technical burden of XML development and A2A filing while still meeting IRS electronic filing requirements. You provide the data, review the forms, and we handle the filing process.
Yes. We handle large-volume filings, multiple payers, and bulk TIN matching.
