The IRS now requires electronic filing of 10 or more information returns beginning with tax year 2023.

Key Requirements
  • If you filed a TCC application before September 26, 2021, you must reapply and verify identity through ID.me.

IRS Form 1099-INT (Interest Income) is used to report taxable interest earned from bank accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), brokerage accounts, Treasury bonds, and loans. Interest income must be reported on your federal tax return and, in many cases, on your state return as well. Failing to report interest income can result in penalties.

Who Receives Form 1099-INT?
Any individual, business, or trust that earns $10 or more in interest from a financial institution during the year will receive a Form 1099-INT. You may also receive one for interest earned on CDs, savings accounts, bonds, or private loans.

Who Sends Form 1099-INT?
Banks, credit unions, brokerage firms, mutual funds, and other financial institutions that pay you interest are required to send Form 1099-INT to both you and the IRS. This ensures the IRS is aware of all taxable interest income earned.

Purpose of Form 1099-INT
The form provides essential information about your taxable interest income, helping ensure accurate reporting and preventing discrepancies on your return.
