Common E-Filing Errors and Solutions
This section lists the problems/errors most frequently encountered with electronic files submitted to IRS/ECC-MTB and their solutions. If you come across an error that is not listed here, please e-mail us at email@example.com and we will update this webpage and find the solution.
There are four (4) types of filings, 4 unique IRS publications that specify how you need to e-file and 4 different categories of errors that can arise. The four (4) types of filings and their errors are as follows:
The above links layout the formatting errors and solutions to those errors. There are also non-formatting errors that have nothing to do with the formatting of the file itself that you are trying to e-file. If you have any question about any error that has arisen while you were trying to electronically file, please contact technical support at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each of these types of filings requires a separate Transmitter Control Code (TCC). You need a TCC number for submitting any 1099 form. Lets say you electronically submit IRS Form 1099-MISC and IRS Form 1099-DIV. The same TCC number can be used to submit those forms. You can use that same TCC number to electronically file IRS Forms 3921, 5498 and W-2G. However, you need a different/unique TCC number to electronically file IRS Form 1042-S or IRS Form 8027 or IRS Form 8955-SSA. As a Service Bureau, we have four (4) separate and unique TCC numbers so that we can e-file any of these forms at any time.
If you come across an error not listed above, please do not hesitate to email email@example.com with the full description of the error and we will review the error and add it to the above list.
