Deadlines for 2009-2010 & Time Extension
 
Filing of information returns is on a calendar year basis, except for Form 5498 and 5498-ESA, which are used to report amounts contributed during or after the calendar year (but no later than April 15).  The following due dates apply:

Due Dates

02/01/10

  • Print and Mail all 1099, 1098, 3921, 3922, and W-2G Recipient Copies (N/A: 5498-ESA, 5498-SA, and Forms 5498 Reporting Contributions)
  • Print and Mail all Participant Copies for Forms 5498 (Furnishing FMV/RMD Information)
  • Print and Mail all W-2 Employee Copies

02/16/10

  • Print and Mail Recipient Copies for Form 1099-B, 1099-S and 1099-MISC reporting payments in Boxes 8 or 14

03/01/10

  • File all 1099, 1098, and W-2G records with IRS via Paper (Copy A).
  • File all W-2's with SSA via Paper (Copy A)

03/15/10

  • Print and Mail all 1042-S Recipient Copies
  • File all 1042-S records with IRS via Paper (Copy A) or E-File via IRS FIRE website http://fire.irs.gov

03/31/10

04/30/10

  • Print and Mail all 5498-ESA Recipient Copies

06/01/10

  • Print and Mail all 5498-SA Recipient Copies
  • Print and Mail all Recipient Copies for Forms 5498 Reporting Contributions
  • File all 5498, 5498-ESA, and 5498-SA records with IRS via Paper (Copy A) or E-File via IRS FIRE website http://fire.irs.gov

08/01/09

  • File all Tax Year 2009 CORRECTED 1099, 1098, 3921, 3922, 5498, and W-2G�s via Paper (Copy A) or E-File via IRS FIRE website http://fire.irs.gov
  • File all Tax Year 2009 CORRECTED 1042-S records via Paper (Copy A) or E-File via IRS FIRE website http://fire.irs.gov
  • File all Tax Year 2009 CORRECTED W-2 records (W-2c) via Paper (Copy A) or E-File via SSA website http://www.ssa.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm

Penalties apply if you fail to file information returns in a timely manner, or if you fail to include all information required to be shown on a return, or if you include incorrect information on a return. Penalties also apply if you file on paper when you were required to file on magnetic media, if you report an incorrect taxpayer identification number, if you fail to report a taxpayer identification number, or if you file to file paper forms that are machine-readable.

Note – If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date moves to the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.
