You have identified your file as a correction; however, the data is not coded with a ‘G’ or ‘C’ in position 6 of the ‘B’ record(s).
The full description of the error is as follows:
You have identified your file as a correction; however, the data is
not coded with a ‘G’ or ‘C’ in position 6 of the ‘B’ record(s).- If this file is a correction, then your ‘B’ record(s) must be
coded with a ‘G’ or ‘C’ in position 6, depending upon the type of
correction being done.- If this file is original data, then send the file as an original
and notify us that there will be no replacement to the correction
file.- If this file is a REPLACEMENT to a previously submitted correction
file that was bad, then you need to re-transmit the file as a
replacement file with the appropriately coded ‘B’ record(s).
When you log into the IRS FIRE system, you have the option of uploading an Original, Replacement or Correction file. This error arises if you say, when uploading, that this file is a correction, but the file itself is not coded as a correction. The solution is to upload it again and make sure that you select Replacement.
If you did intend for the file to be a correction, then you need to select “Corrected” at the top of each 1099 that you are transmitting. By putting a check in that Corrected box, the software will code that specific record as a ‘G’ or ‘C’ correction.
